Purpose and Heart
In partnership with Coastal Church, we wanted to develop a brand identity and visual language for Coastal Eden Cafe that not only reflected its welcoming atmosphere and delicious offerings but, more importantly, amplified its core mission of transforming lives and fostering community within Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
This project was deeply meaningful to us, as it allowed us to contribute our creative skills to a social enterprise with profound impact. Our approach was rooted in understanding the heart of Eden Cafe – its commitment to providing second chances and cultivating belonging.

Authentic, mission- driven branding.
Inspired by the powerful imagery of Ezekiel 36:35 – "...this land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden" – we aimed to create a brand that celebrated transformation, rebirth, and the flourishing beauty that emerges from resilience and connection.
Recognizing Eden Cafe as a ministry of Coastal Church, we intentionally maintained typographic consistency with the church's brand. This created a clear visual connection while allowing Eden Cafe the flexibility to stand independently.
The cornerstone of the Eden Cafe brand is a custom-illustrated floral motif. Bright and vibrant, this design represents the Garden of Eden and the promise of new life. It serves as a visual metaphor for the hope offered by the cafe – a second chance for those often overlooked and marginalized. This motif is a consistent element across all brand touchpoints.
Further emphasizing community connection, artwork throughout the cafe was commissioned from a local Downtown Eastside photographer, capturing the often-overlooked beauty of the neighbourhood and its people.
